He usually rode the bus to/from Gurnee, if we recall correctly. But on the return from Spring Break, Gurnee was sold out. So Sami apparently hatched a plan. He'd buy a ticket from Woodfield and sneak on at Gurnee. There are a few problems with this plan: 1) The fares are not the same, so Sami would be stealing from us if he did this. 2) Boarding at the wrong suburban stop is expressly prohibited by the contract which Sami Usmani agreed to: It is mutually agreed that it is passenger's responsibility to find and board our bus at the proper time and location. There can be many buses from various companies boarding at locations where our buses pick up. You must find and verify you are boarding the proper bus. If you are confused, approach each bus you see in order to locate your bus. Our buses are all colors of the rainbow. In the event that you tender a ticket which is not valid and driver accepts invalid ticket, you agree to pay company full fare for ride actually taken in addition to fare previously paid. 3) Boarding at wrong stop creates additional fare liability. We are willing to accommodate misuse of tickets, in exchange for a $100 convenience fee. If someone is willing to pay $100, we are willing to accept the risk of having to reroute a bus to fix any problems caused by deviant ticket use. This is clearly communicated on the face of the ticket. It seems foolish to potentially pay > $130 for a $30 ride. Sami decided to "go for it" use the ticket from the wrong stop. This was a foolish plan. Had he not slipped the ticket past the driver, he would have been marooned in Gurnee and unable to get to Woodfield in time to catch the bus he was ticketed for. And if the driver didn't spot the bad ticket, he would subject himself to applicable fees. Aside from being foolish, Sami's actions placed passengers with legitimate tickets at risk of not getting a ride. The sold-out Gurnee bus picked up at Northbrook and Old Orchard and then headed straight to Champaign. If all Northbrook and Old Orchard passengers had shown up, someone with a legitimate ticket would have been turned away. Is that fair to a person with a legitimate ticket? Of course not. But Sami could apparently only think of himself. Perhaps we should blame Sami's parents for bad parenting instead of Sami. We're not sure. At this point, Sami thinks he got away with it. We sent him a demand letter and he did not pay his debt. But that's the last he heard from us, so he thinks he's in the clear. But little Sami is wrong again. On 12/2/16, Sami chose to post a rather offensive review on Yelp wherein he disparages Suburban Express for contacting him regarding his breach of contract. Here is his immature, shirking review: I wish I could give this company negative stars. This service is fine if you only consider their travel times, which on average are good but still wildly unpredictable. However, their customer service might as well be giving you the finger. They have no tolerance for being even a couple minutes late and their owner is one of the worst people I've ever had to interact with. The only time I ever made a mistake in 3 years of using their service, I took an alternate bus location by accident (a $5 discrepancy), for which I was then charged an unreasonable fee for "violating my ticket agreement." I tried to reason my situation with the management, but I was treated rudely and with anger immediately. Poor Sami is a fool. Had he not posted this review, we might have forgotten about him. But since he reminded us, we today instructed our attorney to add him to a batch of collections he is currently working on.
